Meet Our Intern Anthony Holmquist-Burks

Anthony Holmquist-Burks is a chemical health intern in Vinland’s residential chemical health program. He is currently pursuing her degree in drug and alcohol counseling at Metropolitan State University.

How did you become interested in substance abuse counseling?
I’ve always been a helper, and it comes easy to me. I don’t know everything, but I know a lot. It is satisfying for me to help people.

Why were you interested in an internship at Vinland Center?
I graduated from Vinland’s vocational services program in 1999, and I’ve loved Vinland ever since then.

What has been your most rewarding experience during your internship at Vinland?
Completing the work with my first client. I enjoyed watching him from when he first got here through his graduation and outpatient chemical health referral.

What do you like to do in your spare time?
Mostly I love to cook. I enjoy having friends over for a feast. I’ve been told I make a mean set of BBQ ribs. I love to read, as well as to the theater. I also enjoy the symphony.

What is your favorite movie or book (or both)?
My favorite movie of all time has to be Gladiator with Russell Crowe. I love action and adventure movies. My favorite books has to be The Prey Series by John Sandford.
