Vinland Center held a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, June 27 to celebrate the start of construction on its building expansion project. Vinland was honored to have in attendance the Mayor of Independence Marvin Johnson and Director of Public Safety Ray McCoy from the Hennepin County Public Safety. Also in attendance were several Vinland board members, community supporters, and Vinland staff members.
The building expansion will add 20 chemical health beds to Vinland’s existing 41-bed residential facility in Loretto, Minnesota. Vinland will also add a new kitchen and dining facility, an expanded therapeutic exercise facility, a new commons area, and additional meeting space. The expansion will increase Vinland’s existing main campus square footage by 50 percent.
Larry R. Opelt from Larry R. Opelt Architecture & Design is the architect for the project. The City of Independence issued a tax exempt bond allowing Vinland to receive financing through Bremer Bank. Kraus-Anderson Construction Company is the general contractor for this project.
