Overview: Vinland specializes in serving individuals with substance abuse issues, mental health issues, and cognitive impairments. During this presentation, you will learn about specific challenges inherent in our client population, as well as practical interventions that may be used when treating clients with multiple issues and clinical needs. You will gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for their unique situation.
Objectives:
  • Increase awareness, knowledge, and ability to work with cognitively impaired clients that goes beyond the traditional treatment interventions and methodology.
  • Learn practical tools to use with cognitively impaired clients.
  • Understand synergistic effect of addiction, mental health issues, physical disabilities, and intellectual disabilities.
Speaker: Farrel Braunstein has been involved in the field of addiction treatment for more than 35 years and is currently a case manager at Vinland National Center. She works directly with female clients who suffer from addiction issues, mental health challenges, physical disabilities, and cognitive issues, in combination or alone. She holds Master’s Degree in Education, is a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor, and is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist with the Brain Injury Association of America. Farrel has presented workshops and lectures on various topics throughout her career including addiction, group therapy, co- occurring disorders, trauma informed services, cognitive disabilities, continuing care needs and relapse prevention.
