Mariya Javed is an intern in Vinland’s residential chemical health program. She is currently earning a bachelor’s degree in alcohol and drug counseling from Minneapolis Community and Technical College (MCTC) with an expected graduation date of December 2014.
How did you become interested in substance abuse counseling?
It’s a challenging field, and the reward of seeing people change is beautiful.
Why were you interested in an internship at Vinland?
I like the clients, it’s challenging, and I like Vinland just because of the way it’s set up to provide everything in order to rehabilitate people with traumatic brain injuries.
What are your goals after graduation?
I would like to work at a treatment center and continue getting my masters in social work.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I like to do anything outdoors: fishing, hiking, gardening, etc.
Where do you most want to travel, but have never been?
Peru
If you were immortal for a day, what would you do?
I would do some crazy stunts on my bike.
