What to Expect

We provide a structured schedule of group sessions and activities, balanced with one-on-one counseling sessions.

Vinland utilizes an interdisciplinary team of professionals to treat the whole person, realizing there are many barriers to remaining sober and leading a full and rewarding life. This includes chemical health counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists, fitness and wellness professionals, vocational counselors, nurses, and 24-hour supervision by human services technicians.

Our residential chemical health program typically lasts 30 days, but can vary depending on the needs, expectations and wants of each individual.

Focus on Fitness

Each participant in the residential chemical health program receives a personalized fitness program designed under the supervision of Vinland's fitness and wellness manager. Vinland’s fitness staff work closely with each participant to encourage a life-long interest in physical fitness.

Recreation Activities

Woman snowshoeing At Vinland, we strongly believe that an active role in sober recreation activities leads to a fuller and more rewarding life. Participants in the residential program will have the option to participate in planned recreation activities intended to foster a life-long participation in sober activities.

Under staff supervision, participants can use the on-site Recreation Center. The Recreation Center features a Wii videogame system, ping pong table, basketball arcade game, and more.

Family Involvement

Vinland offers a weekend Family Program as a source of information for people who care about someone with a substance abuse issue. The program is not considered a replacement for family counseling, but rather it is a source of information about substance abuse, cognitive disabilities, and family relationships. Research has shown that recovery is stronger and more effective when family members are educated and involved in the treatment process.

Peaceful Setting

Vinland’s main campus has a paved walking and biking trail along Lake Independence for participants to enjoy. Our restored prairie also features walking trails that are accessible year-round. Planned outdoor recreation activities provides participants the opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty found at Vinland.

Participants stay in three- to four-person bedrooms that feature attached bathrooms and accessible showers. There are separate men’s and women’s common areas that are both comfortably furnished.
