Building on the Promise
A master campus plan has been created that builds upon Vinland National Center’s vision of “full lives for people with disabilities” by utilizing and connecting with nature as an integral part of the healing process. The new sustainable campus allows for construction in phases, which is meaningful in the short-term as well as the long-term. The upgraded and expanded facility will provide programs for men, women and families in chemical health, therapeutic exercise, vocational services, and outdoor recreational therapies. Integrating and connecting with nature in a profound way, Vinland and its programs are already a model and will continue to be an ideal for a new kind of comprehensive rehabilitation center.
Sustainability
Vinland National Center’s campus expansion plans include sustainable ecological site and building design. Over time the campus will become a more ecologically-balanced ecosystem that is visibly integrated with various plant and animal communities, built structures and people. This balance and integration of site and building is basic to Vinland’s vision of incorporating nature in the healing process.
Earth-smart strategies that are incorporated into the campus design include storm water management, materials and daylight, green roofs, photovoltaic/wind/geothermal, windows/ventilation, landscape & building integration, and constructed wetlands.
Unmet Demand
Over the past two years Vinland’s 40-bed facility has experienced a waiting list of up to 30 individuals. With the unique clientele we serve, these individuals have no good alternative for treatment. The demand for Vinland’s services will only continue to grow as our reputation expands among the referral community. It is imperative that additional beds are added as soon as possible to meet the very real human needs in the community.
