First Annual Winter Walkabout Event a Success

March 1, 2010 - Vinland’s First Annual Winter Walkabout was held on Saturday, February 27 at Vinland’s lakeside chalet. Roughly 90 people turned out for an afternoon of outdoor winter activities, live music and great food.

Weather for the afternoon was perfect with clear skies and no wind. Snowshoe groups headed out on two marked trails that wove along Vinland’s prairie and lakeshore.

Kids enjoyed snowshoeing along a shorter trail. They also enjoyed roasting marshmallows over a bonfire, throwing snowballs, and listening to the live music.

Skålmusik, a Scandinavian group that has performed for the King and Queen of Sweden and appeared on A Prairie Home Companion, performed inside a heated tent. Their music could be heard outside the tent, including at the lakeshore bonfire and along parts of the trails, adding to the festive atmosphere of the day.

Vinland would like to extend its gratitude to Tonka Cycle and Ski of Minnetonka and Country Ways Snowshoes of Minneapolis for graciously donating snowshoes for use at the event. Also a special thanks to Blackwater Coffee Company and Cafe of Maple Plain for donating gift cards for a prize drawing.

Thank you to everyone who made it to the event! We couldn’t have asked for more beautiful weather.
