Building a Home
February 5, 2010 - Construction of LivingWorks Ventures’ new lodge in Crystal, Minnesota is ahead of schedule and residents are scheduled to move into the new lodge during the first half of February.
“Kraus Anderson did a fabulous job on this construction – just three months from demolition to occupancy is amazing!” Executive Director Mary Roehl said. “Our construction crew consisted of foreman and supervisors and they really did a great job. The exterior painting and landscaping will have to be completed in the spring; but, the inside is beautiful.”
The new lodge will provide a structured home for 12 adult men and women with disabilities who are in recovery from substance abuse. Lodges are designed for individuals who need minimal amounts of support to remain independent.
“The lodge will provide a stable living environment and will allow the residents to reach their maximum independence,” Roehl said.
The new lodge features shared common areas to ensure a community atmosphere, providing residents with the opportunity to establish friendships and reinforce the network of support that is so important for lodge residents. Additional features include two kitchens, shared dining and living areas, laundry facilities, office area with a computer, and a landscaped yard - all intended to create a comfortable home-like atmosphere. Continuing its partnership with LivingWorks, Vinland will provide supportive housing services at the lodge.
Thanks once again to all the partnerships that made this project possible! Partnerships included Minnesota Housing Finance Agency, Otto Bremer Foundation, Minnesota Green Communities, Affordable Housing Incentive Fund, Federal Home Loan Bank Affordable Housing Program, and a private donation from Peter and Patricia Moe.
