Snowshoe for a Cause
Second Annual Winter Walkabout a Success!
February 25, 2011 - A week of unseasonably warm weather followed by a cold snap did not make for ideal snowshoe conditions, but that did not stop 154 people from attending the Second Annual Winter Walkabout on February 19. Walkabout attendees completed a snowshoe course in an effort to raise money and awareness for Vinland National Center’s “Expanding the Promise” capital campaign.
Inside a heated tent, Walkabout attendees listened to live music performed by the Scandinavian ensemble Skålmusik, enjoyed a hot lunch, and entered raffle drawings for their chance to win great prizes.
Walkabout attendees folded 140 origami cranes for the Cranestorm Project, an awareness project organized by the Brain Injury Association of Minnesota. The goal of the project is to accumulate 100,000 origami cranes to represent each Minnesotan living with a brain injury. You can learn more about the project online at BrainInjuryMN.org.
Thanks to attendees and sponsors, Vinland raised $8,458 through pledges, donations, and raffle ticket sales. All proceeds raised from the Second Annual Winter Walkabout benefit Vinland’s “Expanding the Promise” capital campaign. You can learn more about the campaign online at VinlandCenter.org/ExpandingthePromise.
This event was made possible by the generous support of numerous sponsors and dedicated individuals. Thank you to everyone who made this event a success! You can view a complete list of sponsors online at WinterWalkabout.org.
