Outpatient Services Managers Invited to Present at National Brain Injury Conference

August 9, 2011 - Vinland’s Outpatient Services Manager Annette Pearson has been invited to present at Contemporary Forums’ Tenth Annual Brain Injuries Conference. The conference will be held in San Francisco on September 28 through October 1.

Pearson was contacted by the conference’s planning committee and asked to submit a proposal regarding addiction treatment for individuals living with brain injuries. Based on her proposal and experience in the field, the conference committee asked Pearson to present two breakout sessions.

“I am honored to be invited to work with such a diverse and expert group of professionals,” Pearson said. “It is humbling as well as exciting to be part of the work around brain injury and addiction.”

The first breakout, entitled “Exploring the Connection Between Brain Injury and Addiction: Research, Risks, Relapse and Recovery Strategies for Effective Behavioral Management,” will cover research, risks for return to use, and practical relapse and recovery strategies. This session is intended for professionals who work in the field of rehabilitation and/or addiction.

The second breakout, entitled “Motivating Change by Changing the Color of Your Lens: Addressing Professional Bias and Attitudes Around Brain Injury and Addiction,” is intended for professionals who want to learn how the symptoms of brain injury are often misdiagnosed and ineffectively treated. This session will focus on how and why misdiagnosis happens, along with strategies and effective tools to correct misdiagnosis.
